We protest the G20 Summit that will take place on April 2nd in London.
The globalization of capitalism has been sacrificing the lives of the people and spreading anxiety and fear the world over by blindly pursuing the short-term profits of capital. And now the reckless financialization has finally resulted in a worldwide crisis, which not only causes the destabilization of all kinds of jobs, but also creates a substantial amount of unemployed and an overflowing homeless population. This global mess is all due to capitalism making our lives and even future its opportunity of speculation and the object of commodity exchanges. All in all, today’s global crisis is caused by the structural flaw of capitalism itself, made by and for a small group of people for the piling up of wealth.
But the intention of the G20 is -- far from correcting the structural malfeasance -- prolongation and reinforcement of this sick and dying system.
First of all, the G20 heralds the restrictions of financial commodities such as hedge funds, but this measure is nothing that can protect people’s everyday lives from being sacrificed for short-term profit making. What it could at best do is to slow down the financial processes.
Secondly what the G20 stresses is the reinforcement of the IMF, that which is the very driver of capitalism’s globalization. Therefore we can by no means accept the plan to give as much as five hundred billion dollars of support to this particular organization.
Thirdly the G20 urges nations to secure employment of their people. But what it basically suggests for the measure is that the nations introduce their taxpayers money to help corporations. We already know the possible outcome from such a policy: send the unemployed to jobs with increasingly worsening working conditions.
No! We cannot tolerate the precarious labor any longer. What we want instead is to have states and corporations pay the price of the mess for which they are responsible.
The only way for us to get out of the lives of anxiety and fear is to terminate capitalism itself. We will strive toward a basic and universal goal, that is, letting capitalism die in peace and creating a global society in which everyone is assured a sufficient income without condition so that we all can have happy and stable lives.
